High-speed pursuit through Owen and Greene counties ends in Lyons area

A high-speed pursuit, that started after midnight in Spencer, traveled south on State Road 67, crossed into Greene County, sped through Worthington and Switz City, ended when the suspect crashed in Lyons.

When an officer from the Spencer Police Department hit lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop sometime between 12:30 and 1 a.m. this morning on a vehicle speeding through Spencer, the vehicle accelerated and fled south on State Road 67. Other officers responded but the vehicle did not pull over. The pursuit continued south on the highway at speeds around 100 miles per hour.

Law enforcement personnel in Greene County were notified and dispatched. Officers and deputies from several departments in Greene County responded to assist.

The pursuit then entered Greene County and continued on to Worthington where deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department had deployed stop-sticks and were waiting.

GCSD deputies reported they were able to successfully deflate two of the vehicle’s tires. However, the pursuit did not end there as the vehicle continued to drive south on SR 67 toward Switz City.

Once the pursuit reached the Lyons area, it ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver was taken into custody, transported to an area hospital for a medical check and a blood draw. After medical clearance, the driver was transported to the Owen County Detention Center and booked in on several preliminary charges.
