Emergency management assessing flood damage
/On June 27, 2026, the City of Linton and surrounding areas received several inches of rain in a short period of time, resulting in significant flash flooding.
Floodwaters impacted numerous areas of the city and surrounding communities, including the city park, multiple streets, residential properties, businesses, and agricultural areas.
Personnel from the Linton Police Department, Linton Fire Department, the City of Linton Utilities Department, Street Department, Linton Mayors Office, Greene County Emergency Management, and other assisting agencies responded throughout the event to assist residents, monitor flood conditions, close flooded roadways, and help protect lives and property. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in responding to the impacts of the flooding.
Greene County Emergency Management is currently working with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) to assess the extent of the damage and determine the overall impact of the flooding.
At this time, there are no state or federal disaster assistance programs available for this event. Damage information is being collected to support the damage assessment process and to determine whether thresholds for additional assistance may be met.
Residents and business owners who sustained flood damage should contact their insurance company as soon as possible to begin the claims process. They are also encouraged to document all damage with photographs and videos, retain receipts for any emergency repairs or cleanup expenses, and keep a detailed record of all losses.
Residents and business owners throughout Linton and the surrounding areas who experienced flood damage are encouraged to contact Greene County Emergency Management at 812-659-4235 to report damages. Reporting damage helps Emergency Management and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security evaluate the overall impact of the flooding and supports requests for potential state or federal disaster assistance should it become available.
Greene County Emergency Management extends its sincere appreciation to all first responders, public works personnel, volunteers, the public, and partner agencies who worked tirelessly throughout the event to protect the community and assist those affected.
