Ellettsville driver facing reckless driving charge for going 103 mph on I-69

An Ellettsville driver due in court next week said he was running late for a doctor’s appointment when he was pulled over on I-69. A trooper said the driver was going 103 mph.

Joshua Joel Koss, 26, Ellettsville, was the driver of a silver 2017 Kia Sportage that was stopped on I-69 on Wednesday, December 2.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper John Yung was on patrol on I-69 around 12:45 p.m. that day when he saw the southbound Kia Sportage traveling in the left lane, passing other vehicles, going well in excess of the 70 mph limit. He tracked the vehicle with moving radar at 100 mph.

He turned around to pursue but the vehicle maintained the high speed and continued to pass slower vehicles.

When the trooper got closer, he tracked the vehicle with Vascar going 103.3 mph for over 8/10s of a mile.

When the driver, identified as Koss, pulled over, he allegedly said his female passenger had a doctor’s appointment in Evansville and they were running late.

Koss is now facing a preliminary charge of reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.

A summons was sent to Koss ordering him to appear for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court next week on February 4.
