When a Bloomfield teen was pulled over in a traffic stop, she only got a warning for a headlight that wasn’t working. But the deputy said he smelled marijuana and now she’s also being charged with a misdemeanor.

Carissa F. Thompson, 18, Bloomfield, is facing preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Thompson was the driver of a red 1994 Oldsmobile that was southbound on North State Road 45 on Tuesday, January 12, with a headlight out.

Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was sitting in a parking lot in the Solsberry area when he noticed the vehicle. He conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of SR 445 and 45.

Thompson allegedly said she had been in an accident and had not had a chance to fix the headlight. While talking to her, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Thompson was asked to exit the vehicle and when the deputy told her he could smell the marijuana, she allegedly shook her head in a yes motion. When asked where she kept her marijuana, she allegedly just looked at the deputy and waved her hand toward the vehicle.

Deputy Allor reported he found a purple “Crown Royal” bag in the center console and it contained a glass smoking device and a tin container containing green plant material.

Thompson received a warning for improper headlights but after a criminal case was filed against her this week, she’ll be receiving a summons via signature mail ordering her to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on March 11.
