Eastern Greene teacher, coach arrested on alcohol-related charges

An Eastern Greene School Corporation teacher and football coach is facing alcohol-related charges following his arrest on Dec. 20.

Travis Matthew Wray was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jordan Allor on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 18, operating a vehicle while intoxicated–endangerment, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Allor responded to a report of a reckless driver at about 5:59 p.m. Upon arriving, Allor observed a gray 2017 Chevrolet Equinox stopped in the middle of the westbound lane of State Road 54, with tire marks visible in a nearby ditch.

When Allor approached the vehicle, Wray reportedly said he had lost control of the car and driven into the ditch. The affidavit states there were two juveniles in the back seat, and Allor noted Wray’s breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

Wray failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test administered at the scene, according to the affidavit. He later failed a second test conducted in a controlled environment at the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Stanley and Bloomfield Police Officer Jordan Brant arrived to assist at the scene, and Allor administered a preliminary breath test. Wray’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at .228, the affidavit states.

At the Sheriff’s Department, Wray reportedly admitted he had been drinking beer in Bedford before driving home. During a required observation period before a breath test, Wray attempted the test several times but could not provide a sufficient sample, according to the affidavit.

Wray later submitted to a chemical test, and a blood draw was completed. The results are pending.

He was booked into the Greene County Jail with bond set at $8,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He was released after posting $800.

Wray is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Jan. 9 for an initial hearing.
