A driver who said he was late to work was allegedly going 85 mph in a 50 mile per hour zone when he passed two conservation officers who pulled him over and reported the driver could not pass sobriety testing.

Cody Randall Sullivan, 30, was arrested by Indiana Conservation Officer Cole Hollingsworth early last Sunday, November 27, following an incident that started late Saturday, November 26, investigated by ICO Hollingsworth and ICO Matt Vossmer who served as the lead investigating officer.

The court record shows Sullivan with a home address in Worthington but his booking information at the jail showed him with a home address in Linton.

The two conservation officers were on patrol driving east toward Bloomfield on State Road 54 when a red Ford Explorer came from behind and passed them. ICO Vossmer said they were near the water pump house just west of Bloomfield where the speed limit was 50 mph but would slow down to 35 mph in 1/4 of a mile at the edge of Bloomfield. ICO Vossmer paced the passing vehicle at 85 mph and he turned the emergency lights on to initiate a traffic stop as they were heading up the hill into Bloomfield. ICO Vossmer said the Explorer quickly began to brake but the slowdown was very erratic and he had to brake hard to keep a proper distance from the Explorer.

Sullivan was the driver who pulled into a residence on West Main Street and stopped but then Sullivan kept moving inside the vehicle and appeared to be retrieving items from the center console as ICO Vossmer reached the driver’s side door. According to Vossmer, Sullivan’s movements were lethargic and since his window was rolled down, he could see Sullivan reaching toward his glove box.

When Vossmer asked Sullivan what the hurry was, Sullivan said he was late to work. Vossmer said while they talked, it became obvious that he was unable to keep Sullivan's attention since Sullivan continued to look for something in his vehicle. Sullivan was asked to step out of the vehicle but he was slow to comprehend the request and he continued to look for something until the officer opened the door.

Sullivan was reportedly unsteady and was assisted in staying upright because he stumbled several times and was emitting a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage although Sullivan said he had not consumed any alcohol. Sullivan allegedly admitted that he had smoked marijuana earlier and used his vape pen containing THC.

Sullivan was transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department for standard field sobriety tests which Sullivan allegedly failed. Sullivan agreed to take a chemical test but then did not cooperate in giving a sample as instructed and the results showed insufficient samples. Sullivan then agreed to take a blood draw and was transported to Greene County General Hospital - results pending.

Sullivan was booked in to the Greene County Jail at 1:15 AM with bond set at $4500 surety with 10% cash allowed.
