A Springville man stopped Tuesday by an ISP trooper on State Road 45 for speeding and an expired license plate wound up with more than just traffic tickets after the trooper said he smelled the odor of marijuana.
Dylan Scott Morris, 23, was arrested and booked in to the Greene County Jail around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday by Indiana State Police Trooper Caleb Garvin.
Morris is accused of driving while under the influence of marijuana.
His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent allowed and he was released yesterday, July 18, after posting $500 cash.
He’s scheduled to appear in court on Monday for an initial hearing to face charges of:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor
Operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a Class C misdemeanor
Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor
The traffic stop came about when Morris was southbound in a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup late Tuesday afternoon on State Road 45 where the speed limit is 55 mph.
Trooper Garvin was traveling behind him and reported Morris was traveling around 64-65 mph. When the trooper got closer to Morris, he noticed the license plate was expired and initiated a traffic stop.
Garvin said that during the stop, he could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from Morris’s vehicle. Morris was asked to step outside the truck and he agreed to a search of his person.
Garvin reported finding a container with partially burned hand-rolled cigarettes containing a plant material as well as a metal smoking device and loose partially burned material that looked like marijuana.
Morris agreed to field sobriety testing – Garvin reported Morris passed parts and failed parts of the testing.
Morris then consented to a blood draw for a chemical test, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where the blood draw was performed, then he was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail.
Test results from the blood draw are pending.
