Driver arrested last Sunday after sliding off roadway

A driver slid off the roadway and got stuck in a ditch in the Worthington area with a juvenile passenger on board last Sunday. He said they were just out driving the backroads. A deputy said he was operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC of .269. The legal limit is .08

Joshua David Baldwin, 42, Terre Haute, was arrested by Deputy Kelly Hutchens of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Sunday, December 5.

Deputy Hutchens was dispatched around 4:10 p.m. last Sunday to a crash involving one vehicle on West County Road 960 North in the Worthington area where a white Ford Super Duty pickup truck was reported to be in a ditch. The caller told dispatch the driver looked intoxicated and there was a juvenile on the scene with the driver.

Baldwin was the driver who was standing with the juvenile near the white pickup truck when Deputy Hutchens arrived. The truck was facing west, off the roadway in a ditch on the south side of the county road. Baldwin said his truck was stuck. He admitted he was the driver and said they were going back to the RV park and had just been out on the backroads.

Deputy Hutchens reported Baldwin showed several signs of intoxication and was emitting the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Baldwin allegedly admitted he had been drinking whiskey but not for hours.

According to a report by Deputy Hutchens, Baldwin failed standard field sobriety testing and agreed to take a chemical test. When administered at the sheriff’s department, results showed he had an alcohol concentration of .269. The legal limit is .08.

Baldwin was booked into the Greene County Jail at 7:18 p.m. with bond set at $12,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted a surety bond and been released from custody.

Baldwin is facing charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person less than 18 years of age, a Level 6 felony,

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more with a pasenger under the age of 18, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Neglect of a dependent – dependent placed in situation that endangers the dependent, a Level 6 felony.
