Driver arrested after fight with passenger

When Jasonville Police Department Officer Skylar Scott initiated a traffic stop on March 19 after a vehicle crossed the center line on State Road 59, he found the driver and passenger possibly intoxicated with blood on their faces.

Scott initiated the traffic stop on a white GMC Sierra for crossing the center line. The vehicle also matched the description of one Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Camron Frye and Linton Police Department Officer Alan Jackson were attempting to locate. At approximately 1:58 a.m., Deputy Frye had been called to a possible domestic situation in the Taco Bell parking lot. According to an investigation narrative written by Deputy Frye, dispatch advised a male exited the vehicle in the Taco Bell parking lot, yelled, and got back in the vehicle. The truck left the parking lot and stopped in the highway where an altercation allegedly took place.

When Deputy Frye arrived on the scene of the traffic stop, Scott informed him the driver – identified as Wesley G. Wollam, 29 of Linton – was possibly intoxicated and had been in a fight with the passenger. Wollam had blood under his nose and mouth area. According to the investigation narrative, he said he had been punched in the face by the passenger when asked what happened to his face. He said he was trying to stop a fight between the male passenger in the front seat and a female passenger in the back seat.

Deputy Frye noted Wollam’s eyes appeared glossy. Wollam allegedly admitted to having a “few drinks”. Wollam later stated he had a “few beers” a couple of hours prior. He consented to a standardized field sobriety test and according to the investigation narrative, said he was sure he’d fail. He did in fact fail the sobriety test.

Wollam consented to a chemical test, which was performed at the Linton Police Department. Wollam delivered a sufficient sample of breath to the breath test machine. While awaiting the second sample, Deputy Frye wrote in the investigation narrative that Wollam became confrontational. Deputy Frye alleged Wollam used profanity and insults toward him off and on for the rest of the investigation. The breath test indicated a high blank sample, which terminated the test. Wollam then consented to the blood draw. He was transported to Greene County General Hospital for the blood draw, results are pending.

Throughout the investigation, Wollam allegedly questioned the validity of the traffic stop by Officer Scott. Deputy Frye wrote he repeatedly attempted to explain Officer Scott’s traffic stop was for crossing the center line. Wollam was adamant he did not cross the center line and allegedly demanded proof. He also argued that he could not keep the vehicle straight while being punched in the face.

Wollam was transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. Deputy Frye was the arresting officer. Wollam was released later the same day after posting $400.

He is being charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated-first offense and no endangerment, a Class C Misdemeanor and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A Misdemeanor.
