Convicted sex offender jailed for failure to register
/A convicted sex offender who failed to report a change of address as required by law was arrested last Friday. He’s already been convicted of failure to register once. Now he’s facing a more serious felony for failure to register again.
Daniel Wayne Clark, 35, Linton, was booked into the Greene County Jail last Friday, November 15, after a warrant was issued for his arrest the previous day, Thursday, November 14.
Daniel Clark is accused of failure to register as a sex or violent offender and since he has a previous conviction for the same, it’s a Level 5 felony. His bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
Daniel Clark’s whereabouts have been under investigation by the Linton Police Department since early October.
LPD Chief Paul Clark, the lead investigator, said a tip came in through Greene County CrimeStoppers from an anonymous individual who said Clark was a sex offender who was not living where he was supposed to be living. Chief Paul Clark assigned LPD officers to investigate.
Officer Joe Riley talked to Greene County Registrar Temperance Harris who told him Daniel Clark’s last registered address was 757 North West End Avenue in Linton. When Officers Riley and Kyle Robison went there to try to locate Daniel Clark, there was no answer at the door and the residence appeared to be vacant. When Officer Robison returned a few days later, the residence still appeared to be vacant.
Then Officer Robison got hold of information that Daniel Clark might be staying at Allen’s Motel in Linton and when he talked to management, they confirmed Daniel Clark had been staying there since September 22.
At the end of October, Chief Paul Clark checked with Greene County Registrar Harris again and she confirmed Clark was still registered at the same address and had not reported a change as required by law. Chief Clark checked the residence again and it was still vacant.
Chief Clark then attempted to make contact with Daniel Clark at the motel but was unsuccessful. An employee said Daniel Clark stays reclused in his room. Nobody answered the door.
The latest criminal case was filed against Daniel Clark last Thursday and by Friday, he was in jail.
Chief Paul Clark noted that Daniel Clark was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in November of 2007. He was convicted of failure to register in October of 2015. He is required to register until March 9, 2022.
Daniel Clark is currently scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow morning, Tuesday, November 19.
