Coal City man arrested on meth, paraphernalia charges after animal welfare check
/A welfare check on two dogs left inside a car led to the arrest of a Coal City man on drug charges Tuesday, according to court documents.
Worthington Police Officer Jeremy M. Brinkman reported that on Aug. 19 he was approached by a woman who said she saw two dogs confined inside a beige Buick parked outside 222 Union St. with its windows rolled up for more than an hour.
Brinkman and Deputy Marshal Caleb Ray responded to the apartment connected to the vehicle and made contact with Michael Walker, 53. After advising him of his rights, officers accompanied Walker to the vehicle to check on the animals and confirm his identity.
During the interaction, Walker reportedly retrieved a glass smoking device from the car’s center console. The device contained burnt residue that later tested positive for methamphetamine, the affidavit states.
Police conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle but found no additional contraband.
Walker was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Greene County Jail. No bond was allowed.
He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court Aug. 25 for an initial hearing.
