Michael Edward Sikes, 38, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Ryan Montgomery of the Bloomfield Police Department last Sunday, February 12.

Greene County Dispatch got a call from a Bloomfield resident who said there was a woman standing naked in the middle of the road in the 1100 block of South Seminary Street.

Officer Montgomery was dispatched at 6:44 PM and when he arrived, he saw the woman sitting on the sidewalk wrapped in a white blanket with two other women standing nearby. One of the other women was the resident who made the call to 911 and the other was a woman who lived across the street.

Officer Montgomery talked briefly with the two witnesses and one said she saw a man force the naked woman out of his vehicle and then he sped away.

When Officer Montgomery asked the victim, wrapped in the blanket, who forced her out of a vehicle, she allegedly said, “Michael Sikes,” and she kept repeating “feel my head” as she was moaning in pain and holding her head on the left side. A large bump was observed above her left eye, there was another bump on the left side of her head and a large bump on the back left side of her head. She told the officer she had been hit by Sikes’ right fist several times in the head while sitting in the passenger seat and while he was in the driver’s seat.

According to Officer Montgomery, when he asked why she was naked, she said she tried to kill herself by walking into a river and when asked why she wanted to kill herself, she said because her whole family hates her because she keeps going back to Sikes. She said this happened at Sunset Park in the Linton area and that Sikes pulled her out of the water then called her names and was smacking her and hitting her and she was hitting him too then he put her in his car and the altercation continued all the way to the scene on South Seminary. She didn't know who hit who first but said they had both been drinking.

Officer Montgomery requested an ambulance respond to the scene and GCSD Sergeant Jordan Allor also responded to assist.

And then Sikes arrived at the scene on foot. He was detained by Sergeant Allor who transported Sikes to the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

When Officer Montgomery interviewed the resident who called 911, she said she was inside and about to shut her blinds on her front window when she saw a little four-door green car speed up, slam on its brakes and stop. A man got out of the vehicle, opened the passenger side door and pulled the woman out of the vehicle. She said the woman was naked and she could not believe it, and the woman was screaming that her head hurt but the man hurried up and got back into the vehicle and took off southbound on Seminary Street. The resident called 911 and brought a blanket out to wrap around the woman and she got her out of the roadway.

When Officer Montgomery talked to the resident who lives across the street, she explained that she had opened her door to let her dog in when she heard the woman screaming and saw her in the roadway then saw the other witness come out of her house.

The woman was transported by the Greene County Ambulance Service to Greene County General Hospital to be medically evaluated for her injuries and for suicidal comments she made on the scene. Sergeant Allor followed the ambulance to the hospital and filled out an immediate detention form for the woman. No further information was released about her injuries or status.

Officer Montgomery then interviewed Sikes at the Greene County Sheriff's Department. According to the officer, Sikes said they were at Boggs Lake and got into a physical altercation then the woman said she was just going to end it all and jumped into the lake head first and sunk like a rock. He said he pulled her out and took her shirt off because she was shivering. He said she came out of the lake with two knots swelling up above her left eye and he tried to dial 911 but she took the phone and threw it in the lake so he picked her up and put her in the passenger side seat and headed home to Bloomfield on US 231 N. He allegedly claimed that she was hitting him and kicked the windshield putting a crack in it and he stopped the vehicle in in the Crane area and she opened the door and got out. He said at that point she was completely naked and two men showed up and he told them what was going on and that she was drunk and just tried to commit suicide at Boggs Lake. At that point she got back into the car and they continued on toward Bloomfield while she hit him the whole time. He allegedly pointed to his right cheek but Officer Montgomery reported he did not observe any visible marks on Sikes' right cheek. Sikes allegedly said he was going to take her to the fire department for help but ended up just heading back to their residence and while on Seminary Street, he stopped the car after she pulled the keys out of the ignition and placed them on the passenger side floorboard. He explained she got out of the vehicle and would not get back in so he got out to tell her to get back in the vehicle but he was cold so he just got the keys off the floorboard and drove away heading home. He also said they had both been drinking that day.

When Sikes was told there was a witness that said he opened the car door and pulled her out of the vehicle, he denied pulling her out of the vehicle. According to the officer, Sikes then became upset and irate and started using foul language toward Officer Montgomery. He was asked to calm down and be cooperative but he did not so he was escorted to the booking area where he was placed in a padded holding cell and his hand restraints were removed along with his personal belongings from his pockets.

Sikes was booked in to the Greene County Jail at 6:10 PM with bond set at $1000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

During his initial hearing this afternoon in Greene Superior Court, a protective order was issued ordering Sikes to have no contact with the victim in this case and he was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
