A Bloomfield woman was stopped in a Linton store where she allegedly used a self-check-out and didn’t pay for everything. She was found to be in possession of controlled substances and is facing drug and theft charges.

Holly Marie Stout, 33, Bloomfield, was arrested by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department last Thursday night, July 30.

Officer Agan and LPD Officer Janzen Franklin were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. last Thursday to the Walmart store in Linton where employees had stopped a woman, Holly Stout, they said they caught shoplifting.

When they arrived, LPD Officer Adam King was already there. He was off-duty and was shopping in the store when an employee asked him to help stop Stout and he assisted.

Officer Agan, the investigating officer, said he was told an asset protection officer had watched Stout take several items from various departments then discard some of them before she selected a plastic container and used it to conceal multiple items she had selected.

Stout allegedly then used a self-checkout where she scanned the UPC on the plastic container but not the items that were inside.

Stout was transported to the police department for an interview where she allegedly admitted she intentionally did not scan all of her items and that she had enough money to pay for them and was unsure why she chose to steal them.

Stout was found to be in possession of half of a pill determined to be suboxone, a controlled substance, and half of a pill determined to be Xanax, a controlled substance. She allegedly admitted they belonged to her but said she does not have a prescription for either one.

Evidence includes video surveillance footage of the incident. Officer Agan reported the items stolen included tee-shirt bras and other underwear items, frames, markers, charms, tote bags, tempera paint, a pair of memory foam shoes, a fitness journal, a note pad, sticky notes and a few other items. The total value was estimated to be $84.90.

Officer Again noted Stout was previously convicted of theft in July of 2016 in Morgan County.

Stout is facing preliminary charges of theft, a Level 6 felony, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

She was being held without bond pending court appearance. The date for her initial hearing has not yet been set and as of late Monday, she was still in jail.
