A warrant was issued on March 7 for the arrest of Michael Hoover, of Bloomfield, on charges of theft where the value of the property is between $750 and $50,000, domestic battery, and criminal mischief when the damage is between $750 and $50,000.

On Jan. 29, Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputies Michael Coy and Logan Milligan were dispatched to a Gorman Lane residence in Bloomfield in regard to a domestic situation. The caller reported to Greene County Dispatch that Hoover had taken a phone from the hands of a female victim, broke the phone, and punched the victim in the face. The caller stated Hoover was attempting to leave the residence, but he was following him.

Upon arrival at the scene, Deputies Coy and Milligan spoke with the victim. She alleged she was holding her phone, recording an argument between Hoover and the reporting party when Hoover reached for the phone. According to the probable cause, the victim said Hoover hit her in the face when he reached for and knocked the phone out of her hands. She alleged Hoover picked the phone up and threw it to the ground, shattering it. The phone, she said, was an iPhone 13, which she valued at around $3,000.

The reporting party stating the argument was over a vehicle title. The reporting party said he had left the residence but sent the victim a text message to let her know what was going on. When he went back into the residence, he said he found Hoover and the victim arguing. He alleged Hoover threatened to knock the victim’s “teeth down her throat”. He said he told the victim to record the incident so they could leave peacefully. He said he witnessed Hoover throw the phone on the ground, causing it to shatter.

A witness at the scene denied seeing Hoover strike the victim; however, he said he did see him “snatch” her phone.

Deputy Coy attempted to contact Hoover regarding the incident, but was unsuccessful.

A warrant was issued for Hoover’s arrest on March 7. Upon his arrest, he will be charged with:

  • Theft, where the value of the property is between $750 and $50,000, a Level 6 Felony
