Jesus Manuel Colon, 49, of Linton, was arrested Friday night by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

The case of a stolen “Rug Doctor” carpet cleaning machine was investigated by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.

McDonald responded to the Dollar General Store on the west side of Linton on Thursday, June 20, to look into a report of theft.

The manager of the store said Colon had rented the machine back on April 27 for 24 hours. According to the manager, Colon did not return the machine on time and Officer McDonald reported that on June 20, the machine still had not been returned.

The value of the machine was estimated at $300.

Attempts were made to contact Colon at the phone number he gave when he rented the machine but it was not his phone number and the person who did own it, did not know Colon. McDonald also attempted to make contact with Colon at all of the addresses that he is known to frequent, to no avail.

By July 2, a criminal case had been filed against Colon and a summons was sent to him ordering him to appear in court on August 22. The summons was returned to the court marked as “unclaimed.”

When the hearing date rolled around, Colon did not show up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

That was on Thursday, August 22.

After Colon was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:18 p.m. Friday, his bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Monday, Colon had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.

When he appears in court, he will be charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
