Howard "Doug" Barton

Howard “Doug” Barton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, while in Wabash Valley Hospice Care, at the age of 72. He was born in Linton to Harold “Junior” and Betty M. Perigo Barton.

He was an over-the-road truck driver employed by several companies including Boyd Trucking, Haag Trucking of Shelburn and Indianapolis, along with Bland Trucking and others throughout his 47 years of work, retiring in 2016. Along with volunteering for the Backdoor Food Pantry, he would also enjoy tinkering in his garage, doing crop hauls for Griffith Farms, playing poker with his buddies and he loved fishing at his pond. He especially took pride and joy in watching his children and grandchildren play different sports and activities throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Rosella (Perigo) Barton along with his brother Harold “Dave” Barton. Surviving family members are his wife of 52 years, Francie; his children, J.D. (Jodi) of Jasonville, Jerod (Amy) of Jasonville and Jenna (James) Fry of Clay City; grandchildren, Mason, Maddox and Myra Barton, Brylea and Adilea Barton, Caitlin, Madison (Jacob) Pinney, Cameron, Charlie and Rowan Fry along with a bonus grandson, Jace Jackson; his brother, Rick (Vicky) Barton of Spencer along with several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life service will be held on May 4th, 2024 at 2 p.m. at 202 N. Lawton Street in Jasonville. We wish to thank the staff at the Wabash Valley Hospice Care for their kindness and compassion they displayed for Doug in his final days.
