Alleged erratic behavior leads to charges for Jasonville man

A 32-year-old Jasonville man is being summoned to court on charges of misdemeanor battery, criminal recklessness and criminal mischief.

Andrew W. Scott, 32, Jasonville, is accused of grabbing the steering wheel when he was a passenger of a vehicle that was traveling at 60 mph, ripping the stereo out and tearing off the dash cover as well as hitting the female driver in the head.

Deputy Zachary Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the investigating officer, was dispatched around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, along with Deputy Davis Aerne, after the female driver called in and wanted to talk to an officer.

The two deputies met her at the Jasonville Police Department where she showed them damage to the blue 2000 Chevrolet Silverado she was driving. The Silverado was registered to her father.

Deputy Goad reported the woman said Scott no longer lives with her, but she picked him up at a gas station in Jasonville to go to Walmart. However, he kept falling asleep and she told him she didn’t want to drive him around if he was falling asleep. Then when he saw she received a text message from someone calling her “babe,” Scott allegedly grabbed her phone and yanked the steering wheel when she was going 60 in the Midland area.

The woman allegedly said Scott was acting like a child, bashed her head into the truck window while she was driving, ripped the stereo out of the dash and tore off the dash cover. She said once they got back in Jasonville, she flashed her lights at an officer hoping to get his attention and at that point, Scott got out of the truck and walked away. She called the sheriff’s department.

Deputy Goad said he talked to both the woman and her father. Deputy Goad made repeated attempts to contact Scott without success.

On Monday, December 9, a criminal case was filed and a summons issued ordering Scott to appear in Greene Superior Court on January 13 to face charges of:

  • Battery, a Class B misdemeanor,

  • Criminal recklessness, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
