Rick Baker

Rick Baker, 73, of Lyons, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
Rick was born on March 13, 1949 to Clifford and Beulah (Bradfield) Baker.

Rick was a proud graduate of L&M School, class of 1967. Rick grew up in the country and though he had a modest upbringing, he enjoyed all the things living near the river afforded him. Rick loved farming with his dad, fishing, hunting and riding scooters. He liked to hunt for Indian artifacts and could spot a mushroom a mile away it seemed. Rick also liked working on cars, drag racing and going to car shows.

Rick was a laborer most of his life in many different areas. Rick drove a bus for L&M school for years. He also enjoyed his own lawn service and was happy as long as he was outside working. He could fix or do anything and was a real “Jack of all Trades.”

As a true historian, Rick had a thirst and knowledge for history, always telling stories and remembering facts from many years ago. As an avid fisherman and hunter, he excelled at Buck Creek Muzzleloader Shoots (even building his own muzzleloaders) and Bass tournaments. He eventually turned his focus to teaching younger enthusiasts.

Rick was instrumental in reactivating the color guard (after a period of dormancy) at the American Legion Post #479. He was passionate about honoring veterans for their service. He worked every year for many years organizing, preparing and participating in the annual Memorial Day services.
Rick always enjoyed a good time and time spent in the “Chicken House.” He loved having all the kids home, friends and family over to visit.

Rick was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #479, Lyons Volunteer Fire Department, Switz City Masonic Lodge and Recycled Rodz Car Club.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Randy and wife, Linda (Lammert) Baker.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Julie (Martindale) Baker and daughter Casey Baker at home. Daughter, Kimberly (Brad) Nickless. Grandchildren Paige (Jesse) Dilley, Ethan Hoffeditz and Bethany Nickless. Sons Fred Lammert, Ed (Brandy) Lammert and daughter Angie Rennick and families. Sister, Ronda (Tom) Derleth. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lyons volunteer Fire Department, Larry Hyde Memorial Scholarship or the American Legion Auxiliary #479.
