Charles Ray McBride

Charles Ray McBride, 89, of Jasonville, IN passed away at 9:55 A.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.

He was born November 14, 1934 in Gilmore, IN to Ralph McBride and Hattie (Williams) McBride. He was the eighth child, born of a family of nine.

The family moved to the city of Jasonville in the fall of 1941, Charles Ray attended the Jasonville Public Schools, first through twelth grade, graduating in 1953.

He worked as a service station attendant at the family’s gas station until 1955, when he entered the United States Army. He served at Fort Knox, Kentucky and in Germany until he was honorably discharged in May of 1957. He returned home to operate the service station with his father and brother James.

In 1962, he began working at the Archetic Ceramic Corporation until 1966, when he became a Prospect Driller for the Peabody Coal Company, he retired in 1992.

Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry and mechanics as well as watching NASCAR races and other sports on television. He looked forward to holiday family cookouts, family Sunday dinners and watching his sibling’s families grow. Charles (Uncle Ray), “Unc” was especially dear to all of his relatives. Family was always his first priority, helping everyone when they called upon him. Charles was a member of Jasonville Masonic Lodge# 530 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, IN, and Jasonville American Legion Post# 172

Survivors include his nieces and nephews; James McBride, Ronald McBride, Barbara Irish, Carolyn Newman, Sharon Morse, Kathy Edmondson, Cindy McNabb, Terry Joe Whitlock; great-nieces and nephews – 18; great-great nieces and nephews – 22; great-great-great nieces and nephews, 7; and beloved dog, Sammy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Eunice McBride, John W. “Bill” McBride, James Dale McBride, Inez (McBride) Funk, Ralph J. “Junior” McBride, Betty June (McBride) Stevenson, Bonnie Lee McBride; Helen Ruth (McBride) Whitlock; great-nephew, Craig Morse.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Funeral Home. Services are immediately following at 2 P.M. with Pastor James McBride and Pastor Terry Whitlock officiating.

Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN with Military Graveside Rites.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Charles to Jasonville American Legion Post# 172. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
