When deputies responded to a Worthington woman’s 911 call for an officer, they determined she was under the influence of an illegal substance, hallucinating and needed medical help. She was transported to a hospital but is also facing charges of resisting law enforcement.

Jennifer Rose Baker, 38, Worthington, was arrested by Deputy Logan Milligan of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Monday night, October 4, on a warrant that was issued a few days ago when she failed to show up at an initial hearing.

Baker is facing charges of:

Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Refusal to aid an officer, a Class B misdemeanor.

These charges are a result of an investigation by GCSD Deputy Michael Stanley into an incident that occurred back on August 3.

Deputy Stanley explained that around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, he and Deputy Davis Aerne were dispatched to a location on Third Street in Worthington because Baker had called in to dispatch and said she didn’t know what was going on, but she needed an officer.

Deputy Stanley said when he arrived at the location, Baker was holding her cell phone with the flashlight on and pointed at the patrol vehicle as he pulled in. When he asked her what was going on, she allegedly just stared at the patrol vehicle. After being asked multiple times, she said she really wasn’t sure. The officer determined Baker was under the influence of some kind of illegal substance.

Baker then said she had been “kicked out” and “locked out” of the house. When Deputy Stanley talked to the man who resided at the location, he said he had been letting Baker stay there to help her out but she was messed up on something. He said he had to go to work at 6 a.m. and Baker kept waking him up asking what’s going on and had woke up his child as well. He said when she walked outside, he closed the door and locked it.

Deputy Stanley explained he and Deputy Aerne attempted to talk to Baker about where she might go to receive some professional medical help but she was silent as they attempted to determine how to help her. She finally said she would go to the hospital.

Baker was going to get into the back of Deputy Aerne’s patrol vehicle when she decided she didn’t like the plexiglass that divided the back seat from the trunk, then was in a panic when she checked out the other patrol vehicle’s setup. Deputy Stanley reported she was hallucinating and was told an ambulance could take her if she felt more comfortable with that option.

Deputy Stanley reported that during this discussion, Baker became “spooked” by something in her hallucinations and she walked out into the roadway as traffic was driving by. They deemed her a threat to her own safety and she was taken into custody and handcuffed. The officers reported she was not cooperative and tried to pull away then tried to get out of a patrol vehicle multiple times.

Baker was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for an immediate detention.

Charges were filed against Baker and she was summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on September 30. She was a no-show and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:49 p.m. yesterday, October 4, with bond set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

As of late today, Tuesday, October 5, Baker has not yet posted bond and remains in custody.
