Early last Thursday, GCSD was looking for a man wanted on a warrant and found him just sitting on the ground in a storage unit area, with methamphetamine, some pills and a syringe close at hand.

Bradley Joseph DeFord, 39, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Thursday, September 30.

At approximately 12:12 a.m. last Thursday, Sgt. Allor and GCSD Detective David Elmore and Deputy Devan Goad arrived at storage units on North Cold Spring Road in Bloomfield in an attempt to locate Bradley DeFord. Deford was wanted on a warrant and was believed to be in the area.

Sgt. Allor said when he arrived and entered the storage unit area, he saw DeFord sitting against one of the units with his back to the door. DeFord was taken into custody without incident and said he knew he had a warrant out.

A camouflage cloth wrapped tightly around some other items, with the orange cap of a syringe sticking out, was found in the area where DeFord was sitting. Sgt. Allor reported the cloth was a mask and the items inside included a syringe that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a corner baggie containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, another zip bag containing a brown powder substance that also field-tested positive as methamphetamine, and two pills identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate and another pill that was not identified. Some of the items are being sent to an Indiana State Police Lab for analysis – results pending.

DeFord was booked into the Greene County Jail at 1 a.m.

DeFord was convicted of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, earlier this year. Part of his 180-day sentence was suspended and he was allowed to serve the rest on work release. But he was found to have violated the terms of work release and was returned to jail. At the time of this latest arrest, DeFord was out of jail and on probation, but a petition to revoke the suspended sentence was filed for probation violations and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

So he’s being held without bond on the revocation in the earlier case, and bond has not been set in the newest case.
