A Worthington woman was arrested and is facing a felony theft charge for allegedly stealing a couple of Cadbury Cream Eggs and a package of Turtle Bites from a store in Bloomfield.

Dawn Melody Herr, 60, Worthington, was arrested last Wednesday, February 20, by Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor of the Bloomfield Police Department after a warrant was issued out of Greene Superior Court.

The jail record lists Herr with a home address in Worthington. The Court record lists her with a Bloomfield address.

The warrant was issued after a criminal case was filed against Herr as a result of an investigation by Officer Allor.

Officer Allor was dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy on US 231 South in Bloomfield around 7:18 p.m. on Friday, February 15, about a complaint of theft.

When Allor arrived, the store manager told him that a customer had told a store employee that Herr had stolen candy from in front of the cash register. The manager said he reviewed surveillance footage that showed Herr did take a package of Turtle Bites worth 59 cents and two Cadbury Cream Eggs, $1.25 each. The manager told Allor that Herr had stolen from the store before and he wanted her charged.

Officer Allor reviewed the video and also reported he observed Herr taking the Turtle Bites and the Cadbury Eggs while standing in the checkout line, then leaving the store without paying for them.

When Officer Allor located Herr and talked to her, she allegedly said she had store credit and was going to put the candy on it and intended to tell the manager about it later.

Officer Allor submitted the results of his investigation to the prosecutor’s office and a case was filed. A warrant was issued for her arrest on Wednesday, February 20, and Herr was taken into custody by Officer Allor the same day.

Herr’s bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $500 cash and was released the same day.

Herr appeared in court on Monday, February 25, for her initial hearing. Greene County Public Defender Alan Baughman was appointed to represent her.
