Charles Robert Walls, Jr., 35, Switz City, was arrested by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last night, Tuesday, March 9. Walls was booked into the Greene County Jail around 7 p.m. on a sealed warrant that was issued this week.

Walls has been under investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Greene County’s Department of Child Services since Wednesday, February 17, when the sheriff’s department took a report alleging Walls had hit his child, under the age of 14, in the back of the head and in the mouth, had tried to throw a chair at the child and had sat on the child. The initial report was taken by Deputy Allor.

According to GCSD Detective Shawn Cullison, the lead investigating officer, the attack happened at Walls’ residence in Switz City on Tuesday, February 16.

On Thursday, February 18, Det. Cullison and DCS Caseworker Christie Burton met with Walls and his fiancé at their home in Switz City. They also talked to three children including the child who was allegedly attacked, who said they did not feel safe around Walls.

On Saturday, February 20, the non-custodial parent of the alleged victim took the child to Susie’s Place in Bloomington for a forensic interview, observed by Det. Cullison and DCS Caseworker Burton.

During the interview, the child said one time Walls picked one of the other children up out of a chair in the kitchen and threw the child on a hallway floor because the child would not eat dinner.

The child was able to give a detailed account of what happened when they were allegedly attacked. The child said when Walls was on top of them, they could barely breathe and they couldn’t push him off but the fiancé pulled Walls off the child.

Further, the child said that after Det. Cullison and the DCS caseworker were at their residence, Walls demanded to know what the child told them and made them stand against a wall but they didn’t tell him.

On Thursday, March 4, Det. Cullison asked Walls if he would be willing to go into the sheriff’s department for an interview about the allegations. He refused.

Greene County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Keven McIntosh filed criminal charges against Walls on Monday, March 8.

Walls is facing preliminary charges of:

  • Battery on a person less than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony,

  • Strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Neglect of a dependent – places dependent in a situation that endangers the dependent, a Level 6 felony.

The case was sealed until an arrest was made.

After Walls was booked in on Tuesday night, his bond was set at $12,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $1,200 and was released.

The seal has since been lifted.

Walls is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Monday afternoon, March 29, for an initial hearing.
