Suspect in Bloomington shooting apprehended Sunday night in Bloomfield

A Bloomington man, suspected of shooting another man in Bloomington on Saturday, was arrested in Bloomfield Sunday night. The suspect is accused of attempted murder.

Mayom P. Boj, 30, Bloomington, was taken into custody in Bloomfield by an Indiana State Police Trooper on Sunday night, May 31.

Boj was transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department parking lot where he was handed over to officers from the Bloomington Police Department then transported and booked in to the Monroe County Jail.

Boj allegedly said another man broke into his residence, an apartment on Odell Drive in Bloomington, and stole things so he confronted the man, pointed his gun, a 9 mm handgun, at the man’s head, fired then fled.

The victim, a 37-year-old male, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital with a wound where the bullet grazed him above an eye. He was treated and later discharged from the hospital.

Police were unable to locate Boj on Saturday.

On Sunday night, someone in the area of the 500 block of West Main Street in Bloomfield saw Boj, knew he was wanted by Bloomington Police, and contacted law enforcement.

Boj was then located and apprehended sometime around 8:30 Sunday night. An ISP trooper was the arresting officer – other law enforcement officers from Greene County may have assisted.

A criminal case was filed against Boj on Monday and he was scheduled to appear in court in Monroe County today, June 3.

Boj has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder, a Level 1 felony,

  • Aggravated battery – assault posed a substantial risk of death, a Level 3 felony,

  • Criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Pointing a firearm at another, a Level 6 felony.

His bond is set at $50,000 surety plus $500 cash. As of this evening, Boj has not posted bond and remains in the Monroe County Jail.
