Suspect arrested after stolen vehicle was reported to be on I-69 in Greene County
/Monroe County - On Saturday, May 8, 2021, at approximately noon, the Indiana State Police Region 3 Dispatch received a call from the Henderson Police Department in Henderson, Kentucky advising that they were investigating a stolen vehicle by a male suspect that took a vehicle for a test drive from a dealership in their jurisdiction and never returned with the vehicle.
Further information revealed that the vehicle was a 2019 Chevy Equinox that had Kentucky license plates, and was being driven by a male who identified himself with a New York identification card as Millard Holley. Henderson Police also believed the vehicle was currently traveling north on I-69 near the 92-mile marker in Greene County, Indiana. It was possibly being followed by a female in a second vehicle.
Indiana State Police Dispatchers then made a radio broadcast to Troopers in the Bloomington District advising the vehicle description and that the alleged stolen vehicle was potentially approaching Monroe County.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., Trooper Matt Harris advised dispatch that he located the suspected vehicle and then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near the 102-mile marker of I-69 northbound.
Upon conducting the traffic stop the male driver of the vehicle exited the Chevy Equinox and began to be argumentative with Trooper Harris. While giving the driver commands a second vehicle pulled in behind Trooper Harris and a female then exited the second vehicle and began confronting Trooper Harris about the traffic stop.
Trooper Harris was then assisted by Trooper Jeremy Cox who began speaking with the female driver as Trooper Harris spoke with the male driver who verbally identified himself as Millard Holley. Due to inconsistencies between their stories and ISP Radio not being able to confirm Holley's identity through databases, Troopers Harris and Cox impounded the vehicles and transported the individuals to the Bloomington Post for further questioning.
As the investigation continued it was revealed the driver to be positively identified as Edward L. Hogan, 48 of Marion, Indiana. The vehicle information was confirmed and Hogan was arrested without any further incident while the female driver of the second vehicle was released. Edward L. Hogan was transported to Monroe County Jail on the following charges:
Possession of Stolen Property, Level 6 Felony
Identity Deception, Level 6 Felony
Driving While Suspended with Prior Conviction, Class A Misdemeanor
