New Albany woman arrested on OWI charge in Bloomfield

A New Albany woman was arrested early March 11 after Indiana State Police reported she was driving while intoxicated during a traffic stop in Bloomfield.

According to court documents, Jennifer N. Denardi, 32, faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent between .08 and .15 and operating while intoxicated, both Class  misdemeanors. She was also cited for driving while suspended and speeding.

Trooper Caleb Sipes of the Indiana State Police reported he was monitoring traffic near the intersection of State Road 54 and JL Wilson Road when he observed a white Chevrolet Sonic traveling west on State Road 54 at 64 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone.

Sipes initiated a traffic stop around 2 a.m. March 11 near Metal Technologies.

During the stop, Denardi told the trooper she did not have her driver’s license with her and stated she had recently purchased the vehicle but had not yet registered it. A check through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles later showed her driver’s license was suspended, according to the affidavit.

While speaking with Denardi, the trooper detected the odor of alcohol on her breath. Denardi told police she had alcohol in the vehicle, including an unopened bottle of Bud Light Platinum and an open container of “101.”

A search of the vehicle reportedly located a partially empty bottle of Wild Turkey, according to police.

Denardi agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests, and officers reported observing several signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test administered at the scene showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.092, according to the affidavit.

Denardi was transported to the Greene County Jail, where a certified chemical breath test conducted around 3:13 a.m. showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.082.

During questioning, Denardi told police she had been drinking Wild Turkey at her home before leaving to visit someone she had met online.

Denardi was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of .08 or more.

She appeared in Greene Superior Court March 13 for an initial hearing.
