Carlisle man arrested in connection with October burglary at Linton gas station

A Carlisle man was arrested Friday in connection with an October burglary at a Linton gas station after DNA evidence allegedly linked him to the crime.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene County Superior Court, Davionn L. Haviland, 19, was arrested March 13 on preliminary charges of Level 5 felony burglary, Level 6 felony theft and Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief. A warrant for his arrest was issued on March 12.

Police began investigating the incident on Oct. 25, 2025, when officers responded around 3 a.m. to the Southside Express CountryMark gas station on the south side of Linton after a caller reported the front door had been broken.

When officers arrived, they found the glass door shattered and pushed inward. Inside the store, the cash register had been knocked to the floor and damaged, and drawers in the office area were open, according to the affidavit.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed two suspects wearing gloves and face coverings inside the store during the early morning hours. One suspect was described as wearing a blue camouflage-style Adidas hoodie, plaid pajama-style pants and slide sandals, while the second suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, gray sweatpants and New Balance shoes.

Officers located several pieces of latex glove near the damaged cash register, which were collected and submitted to the Indiana State Police laboratory for forensic testing.

According to court documents, investigators later received tips identifying Haviland as a possible suspect. Officers also located social media photographs showing Haviland wearing footwear similar to that seen in the surveillance footage.

During a probation compliance check at a residence in Carlisle on Nov. 5, officers observed items including lighters, tobacco products and Zippo lighter fluid. Police noted that the lighter fluid container had a $3.59 price sticker consistent with items sold at the CountryMark gas station.

Investigators also obtained messages from Haviland’s phone indicating he had planned to meet another individual during the early morning hours of the burglary.

DNA testing later conducted by the Indiana State Police Laboratory found that genetic material recovered from the latex glove pieces was at least one trillion times more likely to have originated from Haviland and another unknown individual than from two unrelated individuals, according to the affidavit.

Police obtained a search warrant and collected a DNA sample from Haviland on Jan. 30, 2026. The results of that comparison were returned March 9 and were used to support the charges.

The burglary resulted in the theft of $205 in cash, rolled coins, tobacco products, lighters and other merchandise, according to investigators. Damage to the front door and cash register was estimated at approximately $794.

Court records also show Haviland has a prior Level 6 felony theft conviction in Sullivan County from 2024.

Haviland was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail on March 13 where he was held without bond.
