Mobile food pantry, free health screenings set for April 20 in Linton

A mobile food pantry and free health screening event aimed at supporting the well-being of local residents is scheduled for Monday, April 20 at Linton Humphreys Park.

The drive-thru-only Mobile Food Pantry will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the park, located at 1300 A St. NE, providing food assistance to community members in need.

In addition to food distribution, the Hoosier Health Check will offer free health screenings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park’s West Shelter House. The screenings are open to the public at no cost, and no appointment is required.

Health professionals from Indiana University’s School of Public Health-Bloomington will provide services including blood pressure checks, A1C testing to measure average blood sugar levels, cholesterol screenings, grip strength assessments, and a “veggie meter” to evaluate fruit and vegetable intake.

Organizers say the event is designed to address both food insecurity and overall health, noting the strong connection between access to food and physical and mental well-being.

The event will also include free giveaways and opportunities for residents to connect with local health resources.

The mobile food pantry is made possible through partnerships with organizations including Feeding America and the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank, along with support from local sponsors and community partners.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in both the food distribution and health screenings.
