Man released from jail last Sunday was back in later the same day

After a Worthington man was released from jail last Sunday, he allegedly started drinking and became unruly. Police were called and after he wouldn't stop yelling and charged at a deputy with a clenched fist, he was back behind bars before the day was over.

Joshua Lee Carmichael, 32, Worthington, was arrested by Worthington Police Chief Jacob Gambill last Sunday, March 26.

Chief Gambill was dispatched to a residence on Haxton Street in Worthington last Sunday after a 911 caller told a dispatcher that Carmichael was drunk and being unruly and they didn't want him there anymore. The caller also said Carmichael might be trying to go back to jail.

When Chief Gambill arrived, he could hear Carmichael screaming in the backyard and a neighbor had come over to see what was going on.

The caller told Chief Gambill that Carmichael was released from jail earlier in the day and he started drinking and became unruly. The caller wanted Carmichael removed but the officer explained that they would need to have him evicted.

When Gambill made contact with Carmichael, Carmichael was screaming and cursing. Gambill told him to calm down so he wouldn't have to go back to jail for disorderly conduct. Carmichael allegedly said he was mad that his uncle was at the residence and he was irritated that his mother had made him wait an extra hour to get released from jail, but he eventually did calm down.

When Gambill returned to speak to the residents, a reserve deputy from Farmersburg, Andrew Gonthier, who was dressed in plain clothes, stood by with Carmichael.

While Gambill was talking to the resident, Carmichael allegedly yelled, “Do you want to dance,” at Deputy Gonthier and then charged toward him with his fist raised and clenched. He stopped when Gambill ordered him to stop but then he began yelling again.

At that point Carmichael was detained while he continued to yell then was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 6:16 PM with bond set at $1500 surety with 10% cash allowed.

Carmichael was scheduled to be in court this earlier this afternoon to face new charges of:

  • Intimidation, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Disorderly conduct - engaged in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
