Man arrested after alleged days-long domestic battery incident, firearm and drugs recovered

A Bloomfield man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he held a woman inside an RV for several days, assaulted her repeatedly, and threatened to take her hostage to avoid arrest.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 3, Michael Boyd, 40, has been charged with domestic battery, strangulation, pointing a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department first received a report on Nov. 29, after a woman told a third party that Boyd had battered her and was armed while attempting to evade an active arrest warrant. Deputies were sent to Boyd’s residence on Wilkie School Road, but no one on the property responded. Officers continued attempts to locate Boyd and the woman over the following days.

On Dec. 1, deputies again returned to the property. While awaiting a search warrant and assistance from ISP SWAT, a woman emerged from a camper. Deputies noted visible injuries to her eye, face, and lip. She was transported for medical evaluation and later interviewed at the sheriff’s office.

According to the affidavit, the female told detectives Boyd had kept her inside the RV since Nov. 29 and would not allow her to leave except to feed dogs. She said Boyd monitored the property through security cameras and that she believed he would harm her if she tried to flee. She reported multiple assaults over the week, including being punched, struck with a cell phone, and choked on the couch until she could not breathe. She said blood remained throughout Boyd’s trailer from one incident. Detectives later located bloodstains on bedding, a couch blanket, and a washcloth during their search.

She also reported that Boyd possessed a firearm and told her he would take her hostage rather than return to prison. She said he loaded the firearm in front of her and pointed it at her while making statements before claiming he was “joking.” Deputies recovered a loaded .410 long gun in Boyd’s trailer, which the victim identified as the weapon involved, along with a BB gun located inside the RV.

Deputies eventually contacted Boyd through text messages while on scene. He surrendered without incident. During questioning, Boyd denied any physical altercation and claimed the victim had arrived at his home already injured—statements detectives say conflicted with the evidence and the victim’s account. Boyd also denied possessing firearms, though both were found in areas he had access to. He further claimed the cell phone he had with him belonged to the victim, which investigators determined to be untrue.

During a search of the RV, deputies located two baggies containing a white crystalline substance and a glass smoking device. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Boyd was arrested and transported to Greene County Jail where he was held without bond.
