Man accused of battery
/A man accused of battery resulting in bodily injury was arrested in Bloomfield last week though he claimed no physical altercation had taken place.
Joshua Kerry Hasler, 38, of Newberry, was arrested by Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department last Wednesday, October 30.
Lt. Holt was dispatched that day around 2:40 p.m. to a residence on South Seminary Street about a physical altercation. When Lt. Holt arrived, he was met by a woman who had obvious injury to one side of her face, with redness on her left cheek, the bridge of her nose and her eye.
Lt. Holt reported she told him that after Hasler had been dropped off at the residence, he told her to give him her phone so he could make a call. She refused and Hasler allegedly took the phone from her, removed the SIM card and threw the phone at her. She allegedly said she was then backed into a corner where Hasler punched her in the face and head-butted her then took off walking.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Jackson assisted in looking for Hasler and found him in the area of West Mill and South Seminary streets.
Lt. Holt reported that when he talked to Hasler, Hasler said nothing physical had happened, he didn’t know how the woman got the marks on her face and he didn’t throw anything at the woman. Lt. Holt noted he found Hasler’s safety glasses where the altercation allegedly took place – they had been stepped on.
Hasler requested medical attention due to chest pains. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance, released, then transported to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released the next day.
Hasler is currently scheduled to be in court on November 18 for an initial hearing when he will be formally charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
