Man accused of battery on ride from Worthington to Linton
/A Linton man visiting in Worthington Friday night was arrested early Saturday for an alleged battery that occurred on the way back to Linton. The driver stopped the car and left him on the side of the road with no phone and no shirt.
Ryan Jacob Major, 23, of Linton, was arrested Saturday morning, October 19, by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department.
Officer McDonald was dispatched to a home in Linton around 7 a.m. that morning on the report of a domestic dispute that had been physical.
When Officer McDonald arrived, Major was not there, but his wife described an incident that had occurred early that morning.
According to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Officer McDonald, the woman explained she and Major had been in Worthington at the home of her family member the night before and Major had been drinking. She said they left Worthington around 5 a.m. heading back to Linton by way of Lone Tree Road then County Road 200 North.
The woman allegedly said she was driving and on the ride home, Major started calling her names and hit her on her right arm several times. When she stopped at a stop sign at CR 1100 West, he opened the passenger side door then when she started to drive again, he attempted to kick out the windshield of her car. She said she stopped the car and told him to get out but he attempted to grab her keys and pushed her head against the driver’s side window.
Major did get out of the car, but the woman said he punched the passenger side window and broke it out. She left him on the side of the road with no phone and shirt.
Officer McDonald took the report and left but was called back around 8 a.m. When she arrived, she found the front door had been kicked in and she could hear Major yelling at the woman. When the officer entered, Major allegedly told her to get out but she told him she had been called there.
Major said the woman had taken $80 out of his wallet and he wanted it back so he could get his clothes and leave. He said he didn’t know what had happened the night before except that she left him stranded with no phone and no shirt. He said someone had stopped and given him a ride and a sweatshirt.
McDonald reported Major has a previous conviction for domestic battery with injury in the presence of a minor involving the same woman.
Major was taken into custody, transported and booked in to the Greene County Jail around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Monday evening, Major had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.
The date for an initial hearing has not been set but when he appears in court, he will be formally charged with domestic battery with a previous conviction for battery, a Level 5 felony.
Officer McDonald noted that when Major was searched prior to being transported, he took a tan rock out of his front pants pocket and dropped it on the ground. When Officer McDonald asked about it, Major allegedly said it was for luck.
