Armando Andrew Kresmery, 24, Linton, was arrested early Wednesday, October 9, by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department.

A license plate was stolen off a truck that was parked at the Park Inn in Linton on the night of October 5. The truck belonged to a guest who was staying at the Inn. The theft was reported to the police department and LPD Officer John Agan was investigating.

The theft was captured on the Inn’s video surveillance system. It showed a black Ford F-150 pull into the lot, followed by two men getting out of the truck. One walked over to the guest’s truck, removed the license plate then handed it to the other man who put the plate on the black Ford-F-150.

On October 9, when Yingling was on patrol, he was dispatched to the Park Inn because the manager, who had watched the surveillance footage, said an individual who looked like one of the two men in the video was back at the Inn.

When Officer Yingling arrived, the suspect was sitting in a silver vehicle in the parking lot. He was identified as Kresmery. Officer Yingling reported Kresmery was acting suspiciously, was asked to get out of the vehicle and was handcuffed for safety.

When Kresmery was asked about the stolen license plate, he allegedly said he didn’t steal any plate. Yingling escorted Kresmery into the Park Inn lobby where they watched the video. Then Kresmery allegedly said he did not take the plate off the vehicle and he did not know who he was with.

Kresmery was informed he was under arrest and was searched prior to being transported. Officer Yingling reported Kresmery was found in possession of a substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Yinging noted Kresmery has a previous conviction for theft on his criminal record.

Kresmery was booked into the Greene County Jail around 7 a.m. and was held without bond until he appeared in court for his initial hearing last week when he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and theft with a prior conviction for theft, a Level 6 felony.

A public defender was appointed to represent Kresmery and his bond was set at $15,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

Kresmery has since posted $1,500 and been released from jail.

All are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
