Lyons man arrested on rape charge after alleged assault of disabled woman
/A Lyons man was arrested May 8 on a felony rape charge after he was accused of sexually assaulting a legally blind woman for whom he served as a caregiver, according to an Indiana State Police probable cause affidavit.
Christopher William Holland, 56, was taken into custody at his home on Broad Street in Lyons following an investigation initiated by the Linton Police Department. He faces one count of rape, a Level 3 felony, filed May 9 in Greene Superior Court.
According to the affidavit filed by ISP Detective Ian Matthews, the alleged assault occurred on May 8 at the victim’s apartment in Meadowbrook Apartments in Linton. The victim told police that Holland forced himself on her after showing up at her home under the pretense of dropping off belongings she had left at another residence.
The woman reported that Holland, who had been acting as her caregiver for about a week, arrived at her apartment after her health aide had left. She told investigators that Holland exposed himself to her, demanded sexual acts, and ultimately pushed her onto a recliner and raped her, despite her repeated pleas to stop, according to the affidavit.
Following the alleged assault, the woman said Holland told her, “I hate to hit it and run, but I’ve only had two hours of sleep,” before leaving. She then called police to report the incident.
The woman was taken to Greene County General Hospital and later transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for a forensic examination. Indiana State Police crime scene investigators processed the apartment for evidence while Matthews conducted an audio-recorded interview with the victim at the hospital.
During the investigation, officers also interviewed another woman for whom Holland had been acting as a caregiver. She told police that Holland had not forced her into sexual activity, though she acknowledged he had previously suggested they resume a sexual relationship after their prior romantic involvement.
Police located Holland outside his residence in Lyons later Wednesday and took him into custody without incident. At the Linton Police Department, Holland waived his Miranda rights and spoke with detectives.
Holland denied sexually assaulting the woman but acknowledged he had been at her apartment earlier in the day to drop off clothes and help with daily tasks. He told police he had served as a licensed caregiver for several years, though investigators noted inconsistencies in his employment claims, including an expired caregiver license from Wisconsin and a lack of verifiable employer information.
During the interview, Holland reportedly reacted to the allegations by shaking his head and stating, “I’m done now. I didn’t do anything, and I just want to go home now.”
He was booked into the Greene County Jail following the interview. His bond was set at $15,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
