Linton-Stockton basketball coach convicted and sentenced in Shelby County

A former Linton-Stockton basketball coach has been convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person on May 4 following a March 13 incident in Shelby County.

Joseph Hart appeared in Shelby Superior Court on May 4 and entered into a plea agreement for the Class A Misdemeanor charge. As part of the plea agreement, he was sentenced to 365 days in the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center with all suspended except 10 days. For each day served, Hart receives one day of good time credit. He began his sentencing on May 7 at 8 a.m. and will serve until May 9 at 8 a.m. He will check back into the criminal justice center at 8 p.m. on May 14 until 8 p.m. on May 16. That, along with previous time served, will complete his sentence.

Hart will be on probation for 365 days retroactive to March 16. He was also assessed $485 in court fees.

On another alcohol-related charge stemming from a Jan. 31, 2022 public intoxication charge,  Hart is scheduled to appear in Clay Superior Court for a bench trial on Aug. 28.
