Linton man sentenced to nine years for child molesting

A Linton man charged with child molesting admitted guilt and has been sentenced to nine years in prison with three years suspended. He may be eligible for good time credit but still must serve at least 75 percent of his time – a minimum of four and a half years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Logan Lee Pruitt, 18, was arrested by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department early last August 30.

Pruitt was subsequently charged with child molesting – the basic child molesting offense, a Level 3 felony, and two counts of child molesting – fondling or touching with a child under 14, both as Level 4 felonies.

Public Defender Ellen Martin was appointed to represent Pruitt, and in mid-September, Pruitt posted bond and was released from jail.

In mid-March, Pruitt entered into a negotiated plea agreement, with Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw representing the State.

Last Wednesday, June 10, Pruitt appeared in Greene Circuit Court before Judge Erik Allen and entered a plea of guilty to one count of child molesting, a Level 3 felony. In keeping with the agreement, the other two counts were dismissed.

Pruitt was then sentenced to nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) with three years suspended. When Pruitt is released from DOC, he will then serve three years on supervised probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Pruitt was given credit for 14 days already served. If eligible, he can accrue good time credit but under Indiana law for a Level 3 felony, he must serve a minimum of 75 percent of his sentence, or four and a half years.

After the hearing, Pruitt, who was out on bond, was booked back in to the Greene County Jail to begin serving his time.
