A Linton man arrested twice during one week in October and accused of threatening behavior while he was armed with a gun has admitted guilt and been sentenced.
Richard House
Richard Earl House, 30 at the time of his arrests, now 31, of Linton, appeared before Judge Erik Allen in Greene Circuit Court on the day before Thanksgiving to plead guilty to one count of intimidation, a Level 5 felony.
House was first arrested on October 22 by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department for alleged threatening behavior toward an ex-wife and also getting into a tense situation with Sgt. Hobbs while House was armed before another officer arrived to assist.
Two days later, House was arrested by LPD Det. Paul Clark, this time accused of threatening a child while holding a gun, then getting into another tense situation in close quarters with Det. Clark who had drawn his sidearm.
In mid-November, House entered into a negotiated plea agreement with Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw and House’s attorney, Greene County Deputy Public Defender Ellen Martin, and an expedited change of plea and sentencing hearing was scheduled.
Under the terms of the agreement, which were accepted by the court, House agreed to plead guilty to the one felony and the state agreed to drop the other charges.
House was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with all but 270 days suspended and he’ll be allowed to serve that time on work release as long as he’s eligible. He was given credit for 29 days already served at the time of sentencing.
Following his release, he’ll be on supervised probation for three years and must undergo a mental health evaluation and successfully follow all recommendations and prescriptions as given to him and complete a substance abuse evaluation and successfully complete any and all treatment deemed necessary.
House will forfeit the firearm that was seized, and he cannot possess a firearm while on probation.
He will also be required to pay restitution to several individuals and he’s to have no contact with the victim.
