Linton man arrested on alcohol-related charges after weekend crash
/A 22-year-old Linton man was arrested early Saturday morning after deputies say he crashed his truck into a ditch and showed signs of intoxication at the scene.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Braymon Samuel Lannan, 22, of Linton, was arrested on Nov. 15 on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.
Deputy Brayden DeMier of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near County Roads 400 North and 1175 West. A third-party caller, who was not involved in the accident, told dispatch that the driver asked them not to contact law enforcement.
When officers arrived, they found Lannan standing near a gray 2020 Ford F-150 lodged in a ditch. Lannan told officers he had been driving north on CR 1175 when he slid through the stop sign due to loose gravel. Deputies noted; however, that the crash scene suggested he had been traveling too fast to stop safely.
Deputy DeMier reported smelling alcohol on Lannan’s breath and observed red, glossy eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and an unfocused demeanor. Lannan admitted he had consumed “a couple beers.”
He exhibited signs of impairment and failed the portions of the field sobriety tests he attempted, but later refused to continue them. Deputies also noted multiple open alcohol containers inside the crashed truck during an inventory search.
Lannan, according to the probable cause affidavit, agreed to a blood draw under Indiana’s implied consent law and later submitted to a breathalyzer test at Greene County General Hospital. His blood-alcohol concentration registered 0.230, nearly three times the legal limit. Results of the blood draw are pending.
Lannan was taken to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He was released after posting $400.
