Robert Shane Kieninger, 35, Linton, was arrested Thursday, June 18, by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department.

Around 6:20 p.m. last Thursday, June 18, Sgt. Hobbs and LPD Officer Adam King were dispatched to the area of 6th Street SE and C Street SE where a man, later identified as Kieninger, had just wrecked a red four-wheel ATV then fled the scene.

There were witnesses to the crash and they described the ATV operator as a man wearing a dirty white shirt and ripped brown pants. Witnesses told officers which house the man had gone to when he left the scene.

When the officers knocked on the door, someone opened the door then slammed it shut. Sgt. Hobbs said they then “made contact” with a man wearing a dirty white shirt and ripped brown pants who was exiting the house out the back door. The man was Kieninger, who at first denied driving the ATV and denied being in a wreck. Witnesses said otherwise.

Kieninger exhibited signs of intoxication and was transported to the police department where he allegedly failed field sobriety testing then submitted to a certified chemical breath test. Sgt. Hobbs reported the results showed he had an alcohol concentration of .175. The legal limit is .08.

Kieninger’s license has been suspended since 2014 for being a habitual traffic violator.

He was booked in to the Greene County Jail before 8 p.m. with bond set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $800 and was released on June 19.

Kieninger is currently scheduled to be in court on Thursday morning for an initial hearing on preliminary charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle after being a habitual traffic offender, a Level 6 felony,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to o.15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
