A warrant’s been issued for the arrest of a driver who crashed a pickup truck east of Jasonville earlier this month. His license is suspended for life and he has five other cases pending against him in different counties.
Robert R. Roy, 40, Clinton, is wanted on a warrant issued on a preliminary charge of operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life. It’s a Level 5 felony. The warrant was issued out of Greene Circuit Court last Friday after Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department submitted a report on the crash to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, June 9, on West State Road 48 east of Jasonville where a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck left the highway and wound up in a wood line.
Roy was the driver, with a juvenile passenger on board. Dispatch reported slight injuries but both occupants signed waivers to refuse medical treatment when EMS personnel arrived on the scene. Deputies Frye and Jordan Allor were dispatched.
Roy allegedly told the deputies he didn’t have his driver’s license with him. Dispatch said he was a habitual traffic violator and his license was suspended for life. Roy then said he has conditional driving privileges, but he didn’t have his paperwork with him. Roy had it sent to him on the scene. It showed he had specialized privileges to drive to and from work, the grocery store, church and family functions.
Deputy Frye reported Roy said when the crash occurred, he was driving home from the store with his girlfriend’s son. The deputy told him he wouldn’t take him to jail but he’s required to have the paperwork with him so a report would be sent to the prosecutor. The truck’s owner, also the juvenile’s mother, then arrived to pick up the two occupants.
When the case made it to the prosecutor’s office, it was determined that Roy’s privileges expired on June 1, and that he currently has five cases pending against him in different counties – all involving criminal driving charges.
