Jasonville man behind bars on several drug-related charges
/A 20-year-old Jasonville man is being held in Greene County Jail on a $20,000 surety-only bond following a Nov. 10 arrest on multiple drug charges.
Jasonville Police Department Officer Skylar Scott arrested Forrest Tyler Bodine on charges of possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I, II, III, or IV controlled substance, resisting law enforcement, and possession of paraphernalia.
While on routine patrol on State Road 59, Officer Scott observed a vehicle that appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed. According to the probable cause affidavit, Scott activated his radar, which indicated the vehicle – driven by Bodine – was traveling 71 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour speed zone.
After initiating a traffic stop and advising Bodine of the reason for the stop, Scott contacted Sullivan County Dispatch to see if a K9 was available. He was advised Farmersburg Town Marshal Cody Strain was en route.
Upon arrival, Strain deployed his K9 and conducted a free air sniff of Bodine’s vehicle. According to the probable cause affidavit, the K9 indicated the presence of the odor of illegal substances coming from the interior of the vehicle. Scott advised Bodine of this and asked if any illegal items were in his vehicle. Bodine alleged he didn’t believe there were any illegal substances in his vehicle.
Scott, according to the probable cause affidavit, conducted a search of Bodine’s vehicle. Strain stayed with Bodine during this time. During the search, Scott located a black Nike fanny pack. Inside the fanny pack, 100 yellow capsules marked “IG322 300 mg” were located inside a small plastic bag. The capsules contained a white powder substance. Per the probable cause, the white powder substance later field-tested positive for cocaine.
Also during the search, a small blue container was located inside the fanny pack. The blue container had a small plastic bag inside with two pills marked with “R 031”. According to the probable cause affidavit, the pills were identified as Alprazolam, a Scheduled IV controlled substance.
Additionally, located in the fanny pack, according to the probable cause affidavit, were two small plastic bags with green plant-like material inside. The material was consistent with spice, or synthetic marijuana, and was sent to the Indiana State Police for identification.
A set of digital scales was located inside the fanny pack. According to the probable cause affidavit, the scales contained a white powder residue. The residue later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Also located inside Bodine’s vehicle was a blue and yellow glass smoking device with burnt residue. This item was located on the rear passenger seat.
While Scott was conducting the search, Strain briefly walked away from Bodine to ask Scott a question. After speaking with Scott, according to the probable cause affidavit, Strain advised Scott that Bodine was running. Bodine allegedly fled on foot, entering a wooded area behind an East Sycamore Street residence. Scott located Bodine lying down a short distance inside the woods.
Bodine alleged he fell and hurt his shoulder. Bodine was placed in restraints and secured in his vehicle. Linton Police Department Officers Alan Jackson and Nathaniel Kilgore arrived as back-up while Scott continued his search of Bodine’s vehicle.
Bodine was transported to Greene County General Hospital and medically cleared before being taken to Greene County Jail.
Bodine was held without bond until his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court on Nov. 16. At that time, a bond of $20,000 surety only, no 10% allowed was set.
