Christopher Michael Collins, 39, Bloomfield, was arrested by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Friday, January 8.

Collins was the driver of a blue 1998 Honda Civic that was stopped by Sgt. Pierce late last Friday for driving left of center on State Road 54 in eastern Greene County. The traffic stop was initiated on State Road 45 just south of SR 54.

Collins had a driver’s license but could not find his registration or insurance information. When a records check revealed his driver’s license was suspended, Collins said he wasn’t aware his license was suspended.

Due to having no proof of financial responsibility and a suspended license, his vehicle was towed. The driver’s license of a male passenger who was with Collins was also suspended.

Sgt. Pierce reported that during the required inventory of the vehicle, deputies found a smoking device with white residue, three containers with white residue, and a small ziplock bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. All of the items were located in the side panel of the driver’s door.

Collins did not want to talk to the deputies but requested an attorney. He allegedly did say he let a friend sit in his seat to roll a joint and his friend must have left the methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Collins was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:39 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance – date not yet known.

When Collins does appear for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, he will be formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

GCSD Deputies Jordan Allor and Devan Goad assisted on the traffic stop.
