A Dugger man has been charged with felony domestic battery in the presence of a child that allegedly occurred in Linton.
Jeremiah Kane Smith
When Jeremiah Kane Smith, 39, Dugger, was in Greene Superior Court last week, he was charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony, and battery resulting in bodily injury, Class A misdemeanor.
Smith was arrested by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department and booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:19 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, after Officer Yingling was dispatched to a domestic late on Saturday, September 19.
When Officer Yingling and other officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Jeremiah Smith, standing outside a residence on SE 7th Street in Linton, bleeding from the mouth. He also had bruising in an eye area and said he’d been punched as he pointed toward the house.
The officers then made contact with two people inside the house – one adult female and one juvenile. Officer Yingling reported that when he talked to the two, they both said a verbal argument between the woman and Smith escalated into pushing and Smith was on top of the woman pushing her when the juvenile entered the room and tried to pull Smith off the juvenile’s parent. Smith allegedly then grabbed the juvenile by the throat and the juvenile punched Smith, more than once. Smith then let go and went outside.
Officer Yingling reported that Smith confirmed some of the details but would not tell about others then said he was done talking to the officer.
Smith refused medical treatment and was transported to jail where his bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released. During his initial hearing, he was served with two no-contact orders.
