Driver located and arrested after citizen report
/After a citizen reported a reckless driver was traveling in the wrong lane of traffic, a JPD officer located the vehicle and the driver was arrested on numerous charges of OVWI with BAC of .224.
Amanda Marie Hall, 40, Coal City, was arrested by Officer Skylar Scott of the Jasonville Police Department last Saturday night, August 13.
Officer Scott responded after dispatch received a call about a reckless driver headed South on State Road 59. The caller said the vehicle was traveling in the northbound lane.
When Officer Scott located and first saw the vehicle, a silver Kia Amanti, on SR 59 near County Road 700 North, he reported the vehicle crossed the center line and was traveling in the northbound lane of traffic. As he closed the distance and got closer to the vehicle, it crossed the center line again and drifted into the northbound lane of traffic and a traffic stop was initiated.
With red and blue lights flashing on the patrol vehicle, the Kia allegedly slowed down but continued southward so the siren was activated but the vehicle still continued southward and crossed the center line several times, fully entering the northbound lane of travel. When another vehicle appeared traveling northbound, the officer was concerned the Kia would hit the approaching vehicle but the Kia then turned onto County Road 545 North and officer Scott reported he traveled approximately one mile with his lights and siren on before the Kia came to a stop on CR 545 N a short distance away from SR 59.
Amanda Hall was the driver who said she had been texting as the reason she had been swerving all over the roadway. The officer said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath, her speech was slurred and she struggled to get her driver’s license out of her wallet and the registration out of the glove box. After she exited the vehicle, she was visibly swaying while talking to the officer.
Hall allegedly said she had one drink at a Mexican restaurant and that she heard the siren and saw the lights but didn't pull over because she wanted to get to a friend’s house.
Hall did not do well on field sobriety testing on the scene and after being transported to the Linton Police Department, she failed tests there but she agreed to take a chemical test. Results showed she had an alcohol concentration equivalent to .242. The legal limit is .08.
Hall was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:24 PM with bond set at $12,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
During her initial hearing scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in Greene Superior Court, Hall will be charged with:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
