A driver stopped for speeding in eastern Greene County last week ended up in jail on drug charges after evidence of meth and marijuana was found in his vehicle.

Curtis Leroy Crisp, 39, Worthington, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Caleb Garvin last Wednesday, January 5.

Crisp was the driver of a Ford truck that was westbound on State Road 445 west of I-69 around 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, while Trooper Garvin was traveling behind him in an unmarked vehicle. Trooper Garvin said he was going 50 mph in a 50 mph zone but the Ford was pulling away from him. Radar showed the truck was going 57 mph. A traffic stop was initiated on SR 445 just west of the intersection with SR 45.

During the stop, Crisp was allegedly extremely nervous and making quick movements. Trooper Garvin noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When Det. David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department arrived to assist, a search of the vehicle yielded five partially burnt hand rolled cigarettes containing plant material consistent with marijuana and a glass smoking device with a white residue and another metal smoking device, The residue in the smoking device was consistent with methamphetamine.

Crisp was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 5:31 p.m. He was first held without bond pending court appearance.

When Crisp appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday for his initial hearing via video connection between the jail and the courtroom, Crisp was charged with:

• Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

• Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and

• Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Crisp’s bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $450 bond and been released from custody.
