Bloomfield woman arrested on charges of strangulation, domestic battery

A 19-year-old Bloomfield woman appeared in Greene Superior Court on Nov. 14 for an initial hearing on charges of strangulation and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury stemming from a Nov. 9 incident in Bloomfield.

Savannah Marie Chesterfield was arrested on Nov. 9 by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew Shelton after allegedly battering and strangling her sister.

According to a probable cause written by Shelton, he responded to a South Lewis Street residence in Bloomfield in regard to a fight. Upon arrival, he spoke with the victim who alleged Chesterfield bit her nose. She also showed Deputy Shelton bruises located on her neck area.

The victim, according to the probable cause affidavit, said Chesterfield was talking “s**t” about her fiance. When the victim asked Chesterfield to stop, Chesterfield allegedly threatened her. The victim alleged Chesterfield came at her, so she raised a leg to defend herself. The victim told Deputy Shelton Chesterfield pinned her on the couch and grabbed her by the throat. The victim alleged she could not breathe, so she bit Chesterfield’s thumb. The victim told the officer, per the probable cause affidavit, that prior to this incident, Chesterfield threatened her with a knife.

While speaking with Chesterfield, according to the probable cause affidavit, the victim began calling her names. Chesterfield alleged she said, “I am going to strangle you. I will do it.” Chesterfield alleged the victim began kicking her, so she pushed her down on the couch and put her hands on her throat. Chesterfield told Deputy Shelton the victim bit her thumb, so she bit her nose.

Deputy Shelton, according to the probable cause affidavit, documented the victim’s injuries with photographs. He noted fresh bruising and deep, dark abrasions to her neck and chin areas.

Chesterfield was transported to Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $8,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

Strangulation and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury are both classified as Level 6 Felonies.
