Bloomfield woman arrested on alcohol-related charges

A Bloomfield woman was arrested Nov. 26 on three separate charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after backing into a vehicle in her driveway with more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

Crystal Dawn Ferree, 45, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jordan Allor after he responded to a call at approximately 8:42 p.m. on Nov. 26 in regard to an accident at a residence on East Union Valley Road in Bloomfield. She faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – first offense and no endangerment, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an alcohol concentration equivelant to at least .08 but less than .15.

The reporting party, according to the probable cause, stated Ferree backed into her boyfriend’s car. Upon arrival at the scene, Sgt. Allor requested to speak with Ferree. While waiting for Ferree to exit the residence, per the probable cause, he spoke with the damaged car’s owner and obtained information necessary to complete an accident report.

The owner of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat Ferree allegedly backed into told Allor she backed into his car, then drove through the yard.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Sgt. Allor waited 17 minutes for Ferree to exit the residence. He again requested her to come outside, which she did two minutes later.

When speaking with Sgt. Allor, Ferree alleged there were items in the garage she had forgotted about and when she backed up her vehicle, she hit the other car on accident. Sgt. Allor requested her license, registration, and insurance information. According to the probable cause, Ferree said the vehicle was not insured; however, alleged it never left the property.

While speaking with her, Sgt. Allor, according to the probable cause affidavit, noticed glassy eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. When asked if she had consumed any alcoholic beverages, Ferree alleged she’d had one large and one small margarita at a local Mexican restaurant. Although she said she did not drive home from the restaurant, she alleged she did back the vehicle out of the garage and through the upper field of the property.

Sgt. Allor conducted a standardized field sobriety test, which Ferree failed. According to the probable cause affidavit, Ferree admitted she had also taken two different sleeping medications – one prescription and one over the counter – prior to the accident.

Ferree consented to a chemical test and was transported to the Greene County Jail for administration. According to the probable cause affidavit, at 10:16 p.m., Ferree’s chemical test showed 0.083.

She was then booked into Greene County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – first offense and no endangerment, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an alcohol concentration equivelant to at least .08 but less than .15.

Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She was released after posting $400.

Ferree is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Dec. 7.
