Bloomfield man accused of battery on a pregnant woman

A Bloomfield man charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated last month is now accused of battery on a pregnant woman. Bond was set on the battery charge but his bond has been revoked in the OVWI case so he’s being held without bond.

Brant Mason Boyd, 36, Bloomfield, was arrested by Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Friday evening, May 24, on a warrant issued following an investigation by GCSD Deputy Camron Frye.

Last Wednesday, May 22, Deputy Frye responded to a residence in the rural Bloomfield area to meet with a woman who had called to report she had been battered by Boyd and had gone to her friend’s house and was afraid to return to her own house.

She said she had been in a verbal altercation with Boyd and she tried to calm the situation down but was slapped across her face then grabbed by her neck.

She said she didn’t want to call law enforcement, but she wanted to get him and another woman out of her house.

When Deputy Frye, accompanied by Deputy Zachary Goad, went to her house on Iron Mountain Road outside of Bloomfield, he talked to Boyd who said nothing had happened. Deputies also spoke to another woman who was at the home.

After the interviews, Deputy Frye indicated all information was documented and audio and photo evidence was taken, including pictures of the woman’s injuries which included marks and a bruise above an eye. The woman also told the deputies she was pregnant.

No arrests were made that night, but after information was submitted to the prosecutor’s office, a criminal case was filed against Boyd.

A warrant was issued for his arrest last Friday on a preliminary charge of domestic battery with bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a Level 5 felony. Boyd was then taken into custody later that same day.

Boyd was booked into the Greene County Jail where his bond in this case was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed, but he has another case pending against him.

In the previous case, Boyd was arrested in April and charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors, all involving operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

In this previous case, yesterday, on Tuesday, May 28, the prosecution filed a motion to revoke his bond and that was approved and ordered. So now he’s being held in jail without bond.
