A Linton businessman sentenced yesterday is now serving time in jail

A Linton man is doing some jail time after admitting his guilt in two cases of theft. He was accused of accepting items to be sold at auction then not paying the owners and not returning the items. He was sentenced in Greene Superior Court yesterday morning then booked into jail.

Jeffrey Alan Dixon, 55, Linton, was charged with theft as a Level 6 felony in two different cases filed against him last August and September. Warrants were issued, Dixon was arrested and he then bonded out of jail.

In December, Dixon entered into a negotiated plea agreement and when he appeared before Judge Dena Martin on Thursday, he admitted guilt and was convicted in both cases of theft, as Class A misdemeanors.

In both cases, Dixon was sentenced to one year in the Greene County Jail with all but 30 days suspended. He didn’t get any credit for time already served but he will get good-time credit if eligible.

After he serves the jail time, he will then be on supervised probation for 335 days.

These two sentences will be served concurrently – at the same time.

Dixon was ordered to pay various fees, fines and costs, and to make restitution to the victims in both cases.

In the first case, Dixon was ordered to pay $6,600 in restitution to the victim and in the second case, he was ordered to pay $2,030 to two victims.

The restitution is to be paid through the Greene County Clerk’s Office pursuant to an installment payment plan to be established by Dixon’s probation officer.

In addition to these two cases in Greene County, Dixon is facing another criminal case in Sullivan County where he’s accused of theft in an incident similar to the incidents in Greene County.

A warrant was issued in mid-January in Sullivan County for his arrest on a preliminary charge of theft, a Level 6 felony.
