Richard Vaughn Harmon
/Richard Vaughn Harmon, age 89, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 9:20 PM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Glenburn Home in Linton. Richard was born in Pekin, Indiana on August 7, 1935, the son of Howard W. and Daisy (Farmer) Harmon.
He served and retired from the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Following his retirement from the Army as Sergeant First Class, he served with the 604th MP BN Army Reserve, retiring in August 1995.
Richard loved history and genealogy. He and his wife, Teddy, fostered 56 children. He was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland, and the American Legion Post #22 in Linton.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theodora "Teddy" Ann Harmon of Linton; his children, Richard Vaughn (Mehfuza) Harmon, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Jeanee Johnson of Midland, Robert (Deda) Rush of Jasonville, and Rosalie "Lee" Montgomery of Maryland; nine grandchildren, Richard Vaughn (Laura) Harmon, III, Erica Lynn Harmon, Krista Marie (Daniel) Lyvers, Brook Wilson, Austin (Sami) Rush, Carson Rush, Lily Rush, Richard (Melissa) Montgomery, and Jessica (Michael) Neville; nine great-grandchildren, Aya Harmon, Lucas Stevenson, Ariana Weathers, Teegan Lyvers, Tucker Hadley, Tilly Schlatter, Penelope Rush, Paige Neville, and Peyton Neville; a sister, Delores (John) Harmon-Gatton of Louisville, Kentucky; and a niece, Karen Demarsh. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Boo 2.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Christopher Perez; and a niece, Paula King.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, with military honors by the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of service.
